Forestry & Fodder

About Forest & Fodder

Fodder is a high-cost input in animal husbandry and is frequently constrained by unreliable supply chains. We support dairy farmers in addressing these challenges by helping them select and cultivate fodder grasses suited to local agro-climatic conditions and specific dairy breeds. These interventions are designed to improve milk yields, enable herd expansion, reduce dependence on external and uncertain fodder supplies, and ultimately lower the overall cost of fodder within the dairy enterprise.

We also help individuals and communities to create tree cover on distressed or exhausted land. For individuals, the focus is on realizing monetary benefit within a reasonable time period, and can include timber species. For communities, the focus is on resilient NTFP (non-timber forest produce) species carefully selected for their agroclimate. In both cases, we provide guidance on species selection, planting density, and early-stage maintenance to improve survival rates and long-term productivity. These efforts restore degraded land, strengthen local livelihoods, and build climate resilience while aligning ecological outcomes with the economic priorities of individuals and communities.
